UNIT II - Rhythms

This UNIT is dedicated to Brazilian rhythms. You'll learn how to play Ijexá, Maxixe, Xote, Côco and three different Maracatú grooves. You'll also learn about the concept of inversion that will broaden your abilities on the Pandeiro.

  • Lesson 1 (11 min): Click here to watch for FREE! You'll learn how to play the Ijexá, Maxixe and Xote rhythms!

  • Lesson 2 (12 min): In this lesson we introduce one of the most important concepts called inversion of a pattern. We apply this to Ijexá and understand how to invert rhythms without stopping the groove.

  • Lesson 3 (8 min): We introduce the Côco and Xaxado, two very important grooves from the Northeast of Brasil.

  • Lesson 4 (10 min): In this lesson we teach three different Maracatú rhythmic patterns, also known as Baques.

  • Lesson 5 (9 min): We wrap up this UNIT by teaching Frevo and Arrasta-pé, two upbeat grooves.
